At D-MTEC, we believe in the valuable role a strong community can play in helping you succeed in your studies. The Buddies Programme invites you to become part of the community and to find inspiration and motivation there. Your time at D-MTEC is about more than just your professional education; it also offers you the opportunity to further expand your network.

The Buddies Programme supports you in the onboarding process as you join the MAS MTEC programme. It has two aims:

  • Connect you with fellow students in your cohort and thus help build community
  • Connect you with third-semester students to help familiarise you with the programme and with life at ETH Zurich

We match buddies with one to five incoming MAS MTEC students. Informal meetings are held virtually or in person. The programme relies on the active participation of incoming and existing students. Participation is voluntary, but highly recommended.

The MAS MTEC Buddies Programme started as a pilot project in Autumn 2020 as a joint initiative between the MAS MTEC Board and the programme lead.

What You Need to Know as Participant

As an incoming student you can ask your buddy – a 3rd semester student – questions about course content and for advice on how to go about your studies together with your job, families and other obligations.

  • You will be grouped with one buddy and up to four other incoming students based on matching profiles.
  • You will organise 2–3 meetings with your group or individually with your 3rd-semester buddy. You can meet in person or online; scheduling is between you and your group.
  • The first meeting should be held by the end of June at the latest. This will give you the opportunity to discuss courses before course registration opens in the first half of July.
  • Please register for the Buddies Programme by 4 May 2025.

Your buddy is not there to answer administrative questions. Should you have any questions or matters regarding student or course administration, please address them to mtec-mas-student@ethz.ch
